KANOWIT, Oct 28 — The Kanowit Dance Troupe has brought pride to Sarawak by winning several major awards at the Young Performing Arts Championship (YPAC) 2025, successfully elevating the prestige of Sarawak’s traditional performing arts to an international level.
According to information shared by SeAn Ira on her official Facebook page, the troupe impressed judges and audiences alike in three competition categories.
In the Traditional Trio U12 (Ngajat Iban) category, the Kanowit Dance Troupe earned a Gold Medal (Winner) for their performance, which showcased the authentic beauty of the traditional Iban dance through strong choreography and captivating expression.
Meanwhile, in the Traditional Ensemble U12 (Orang Ulu Dance) category, the team achieved Platinum Winner (Top Winner) — the highest recognition in that segment. Their performance, inspired by the Orang Ulu ethnic heritage, received praise from judges for its unique cultural representation, strong discipline, and synchronisation.
In the Traditional Ensemble U12 (Fan Dance) category, the team also brought home a Silver Medal (Winner) for their graceful performance that beautifully incorporated traditional elements through the young dancers’ refined movements.
The Kanowit Dance Troupe consists of students from SK Nanga Ngungun, SK Nanga Tada, SK Nanga Jagau, and SK St. Francis Xavier, all of whom demonstrated exceptional commitment and teamwork in preserving Sarawak’s traditional ethnic heritage.
This achievement not only brings pride to their respective schools but also highlights the great potential of young talents from rural areas in sustaining and promoting the region’s rich cultural heritage on the world stage.
